From June 12 to June 19 will be World Wide Knit in Public day. Different groups around the world will host events and today June 13, 2010 was the WWKPD for the Tidewater Knitting Guild at the D'art center.
When I went in I received a giftbag which was one of those drawstring backpacks with patterns, yarn samples and various other items celebrating the day, at this point I also received a ticket to win a door prize.
As I walked around I saw various art studios were the artists displayed their work, some were there, but most were closed (oh, there was also a Starbucks). For the WWKPD there were groups of people knitting and spinning with spinning wheels (as opposed to using spindles), a table filled and bench filled with door prizes. A space that was used for yarn tasting. There were baskets of yarn that you could take samples and later see how it knits up. Labels were there so you could write down what yarn and even a sheet with a list of suppliers.
Knitwits, and Knitting Corner two local yarn shops where also there displaying some of there products, as well as Cornerstone Farms, which is an Alpaca farm. I did purchase a skein of gray yarn which came from the fleece of an Alpaca named Cherry Pie.
Back to the table full of door prizes. Every half hour up to 10 tickets were drawn and then the person would pick a number for the door prize. I won two books from Lion Brand Yarn. There were enough prizes that everybody one something.
I had fun and got a lot done on the scarf that I have started a few months ago. May I will finish it this week.
Sounds like fun.
